The Opportunities are all around for Better Business Recycling

March 28th, 2013

Every month, we come across headlines that remind us of all the opportunities that are available when it comes to business waste recycling. For example, recently the San Jose Mercury News reported that “Santa Monica Recycles Cooking Grease Into Biofuel.” This provides a perfect example for exactly how much you can truly do when it comes to better waste recycling.

Over the years, we’ve had the chance to help quite a few businesses recycle better. Through all of our efforts, we’ve come across a quickly growing list of ways to recycle that are significantly cheaper than the alternative. Ultimately, we’ve learned that no matter what industry a business is in there’s something they can do with their waste that’s better than simply hauling it away. Whether they can convert grease into biofuel like the restaurants in Santa Monica, or contribute used paper products to create more recycled paper—the fact always remains that the opportunities remain, and Environmental Waste Solutions
affiliates benefit every day from the many opportunities that surround us.

When thought about just a little bit differently, an opportunity is a funny thing. 5 years ago, many EWS affiliates had no clue that they could make a good living and make a difference by helping businesses recycle better. In the same way, many of the businesses that we work with never knew that there were far better (and much more profitable) things they could be doing with their waste. Now, the EWS affiliates who didn’t have a clue are successful and working on their own. As for their client businesses, they’re greener and better than they were before. So take it from us, even though the opportunities that surround us may not be obvious, never underestimate the impact they can make. Who knows, your next opportunity could be your greatest.

How Businesses Can Save More By Seriously Considering Waste

December 30th, 2012

When it comes to the list of priorities for a chef or restaurateur, food waste probably finds itself wedged somewhere between the Dish Washer’s pruning fingers and the Dessert Chef’s sweet tooth. Unfortunately, waste becomes a given – and as is the case far too often, when something’s taken for granted it often ends up having a far greater impact in the long term than we ever would have thought. That is why concerns like waste can become a slow but nagging drain on any business’ bottom line, but it doesn’t have to be that way.

Most businesses would be surprised by how much money gets thrown into the dumpster. But that is precisely where enterprising small business owners can make a difference.

Today, home business opportunities are everywhere. Some of them are legitimate, some not-so-much. However, while most of them tend to offer either a product or a service – very few of them attempt to deal with the very real but overlooked problem of waste.

But you might wonder, “What if I don’t have the skill to run a successful home business?” Fortunately, that’s actually not as big of an issue as you would normally believe. Many home based business owners started out with just a computer and a prayer, but the opportunity to start a profitable home business is not just beneficial for the business owners, but for the businesses and institutions with the resources to train them as well. For that reason, many legitimate business opportunities have thrived over the years by offering aspiring business owners the skills, support, and know-how to work independently with the luxury of a safety net to assist them in their efforts. Whether that means help in getting started, actual training, or collaboration in large projects, there is a wealth of opportunity when it comes to embarking on the “work at home business” journey.

So let’s say you do want to start a new home business. You might wonder, “Where do I begin?” To answer that, we might try returning to where we began. Waste. Eliminating waste might be your best work at home business “bet”. For instance, in restaurants a large portion of food (about 15 percent) is wasted before it even leaves the kitchen. After that, the average guest leaves 17 percent of their food. That means that a sizable chunk of food and money is being tossed into the dumpster and thrown away. For an example of this that hits more close to home, the average American family in 2012 ended up throwing away up to $2,275 worth of food. Think of that in the context of virtually any institution that serves food and the opportunities to save money on waste are everywhere.

Businesses across the country and around the world are fighting to stay profitable and efficient in a challenging economy. But they may not even realize that one of the biggest sources of waste has been sitting right under their noses, or more specifically, in their dumpster.

An Inside Look at One of the Most Promising New Home Business Niches

December 28th, 2012

Opportunities to work from the comfort of your own home are everywhere these days. From vague ads on job-search websites to flyers and signs posted along main street America promising the ability to “Earn money in your Pajamas!” or “Work from the comfort of your own home!” Unfortunately, these opportunities are – more often than not – too good to be true. After all, if it was that easy to earn money by sitting behind your computer screen, wouldn’t everyone be doing it? However, too good to be true business “opportunities” might be a dime a dozen, there are viable paths to take when it comes to starting a profitable home based business.  One of those paths that continues to find more and more leverage is that of the corporate cost reducer.

It might as well be said now. There really is no magic opportunity that will return six figures without any hard work. There has never been one, nor will there ever be. However, there are opportunities that are ripe for driven individuals interested in working independently. So if you want to set your hour and you’re ready to set your sights high and go for it – some of these opportunities might fit the bill for you.

One of the approaches to actually attaining the “work from home” lifestyle has continually evolved over the years, but it hasn’t lost its place as one of the timeless ways to work from home, offer a service, and get paid for it. That specific approach is corporate cost reduction.

Regardless of the economic climate, businesses like supermarkets, restaurants, hotels, hospitals, and just about any institution that serves or sells food in any capacity has to deal with a tremendous amount of waste. That waste needs to be disposed of, which isn’t free. To think of it as simply as possible, waste truly does equal waste. However, instead of losing money by paying to dispose of waste, businesses can approach the problem from a different perspective and do “optimize” that business’ waste stream, making it smaller, more cost efficient, and saving the business more than they might have thought possible.

One recent study even estimated that Americans throw away as much as $165 billion a year when it comes to wasted food, and some of the biggest offenders may not even realize there is something they can do to reduce what’s wasted.  In fact, some of the most egregious wasters of food tend to be grocery stores and restaurant. Grocery stores alone throw out an estimated $15 billion worth of unsold produce alone every year. This is usually written off as the cost of doing business, however – does it need to be that way? By reducing that waste by half, businesses everywhere could save a great deal, and new home based businesses across the country are helping them do it.

How do I start?
Sometimes, starting a new home business is the hardest part. But it doesn’t have to be. You know that waste exists and that there’s money to be saved, you also know that business are always looking to save some more.  Fortunately, there are many ways to help businesses cost costs, reduce waste, and give yourself some a monthly income at the same time. Whether you go it alone or learn the necessary skills through a training program, the unlimited potential in reducing business waste is very real. Solve All Your Winter Fears By Working From Home!

October 26th, 2011

Daylight savings time is fast approaching!  For many, this is a time that is most dreaded.  I for one am in that category.  In less than one month, we will all be turning our clocks back one hour.  This does not only mean that it will become darker earlier, but it is also a huge indication that winter is just around the corner. winter-work-at-home

If you are a person that is not looking forward to the long months of snow, ice, freezing temperatures, or waking up early in order to scrape off your car, then I have the perfect opportunity for you! By starting your own environmentally friendly business, not only will you become your own boss but you will have the highly sought after ability to work from home and create your own work schedule…leaving you more time to enjoy the slopes or sit in front of the fire, watching a good flick.

Now you are probably saying to yourself, how does starting your business solve these problems, especially since starting a business can most times be overwhelming and frustrating. However, this will not be the case for you, especially since you will be creating a business focused on trash!

Think about it, trash is always around! No matter what season it is. It’s in your house, at the restaurants you frequent, and in the stores you shop at. Everywhere, businesses large and small are looking for ways to cut costs, and trash could very well be the solution that does just that.

With the right training and knowledge, you can help businesses save by creating zero waste initiatives that make their waste streams more efficient and inexpensive. With your help they can improve their bottom line and free up money they never knew they were wasting. All the while, you would earn half of what they save every month.

All it takes is a change in perspective and the training to recognize how valuable green can truly be.

So when it comes time for you to turn your clock back an hour, think about how starting your own business could not only allow you to work from the warmth of your own home and maybe even sleep a little later, it could also allow you to help others become more green!

The Strong Case for Recycling

October 25th, 2011

The case for recycling is strong. The bottom line is clear. Recycling requires a trivial amount of our time. Recycling saves money and reduces pollution. Recycling creates more jobs than landfilling or incineration. And a largely ignored but very important consideration, recycling reduces our need to dump our garbage in someone else’s backyard.
— David Morris of the Institute for Local Self-Reliance

When I first read this quote it made me think of how important recycling in our every day lives.  By recycling we are not only preserving the environment, saving energy, or reducing pollution.  But recycling is also largely overlooked in the sense that it creates 1.1 million jobs across the United States.

One of those opportunities could be for you, in the form of starting your own green business focused on making a difference with recycling. Yes, thanks to trash you can have the ability to be your own boss, create your own work schedule, and work from the comfort of your own home. All the while, you can make a residual income helping businesses of every scale save more by optimizing their waste streams so they waste less, recycling more, and spend less on unnecessary disposal.

As a result, your clients make more of an impact on the environment by reducing their impact, your community benefits, your landfill shrinks, and you earn part of what they save.

I understand that starting your own business that has a sole focus on trash does not sound like a successful business opportunity at first.  But with the right knowledge and training, starting your own green business gives you the unique (and recession proof!) to earn a very attractive residual income. In the past, independent business owners with similar businesses in the recycling industry have made up to six-figures! All by helping businesses save more by wasting less. Let’s face it, businesses are always looking for new ways to cut costs, and they would rather not do it by downsizing their work force or slowing production. By helping them minimize costs related to waste disposal you could be the solution to their problem!

So the next time you are taking out the trash, think about how you could be the owner of your own successful and green home based business!

Getting Paid to Recycle!

October 19th, 2011

I recently had lunch with college friend whom I have not seen in the past couple of years.  As we caught up on everything that was happening in each other’s lives, along a few laughs over old memories from our college years, he asked me if I had heard anything about this new trend in the recycling world called the “reverse vending machine”.  I had not, but I definitely wanted to know more about it!

According to an article, the Reverse Vending Machine is a “new type of vending machine that encourages residents to recycle by rewarding them with gifts and vouchers.”  Recyclers will take their plastic bottles or aluminum cans to this machine, place it (one at a time) into the receiving aperture, and receive points for the recycled items; these points can then be redeemed at participating stores.

Today, out of a billion beverage containers emptied per year, only 36,000 made it to the recycling bin.  The creators of the RVM are hoping that by giving costumers a reward for recycling, they will become more educated on the issue and how to become more responsible for their wasteful actions.

Businesses are always looking for ways to make recycling a more positive aspect in their daily routines but don’t always have the means to do so.  Therefore by starting your own entirely green business, you will have the skills and knowledge to help businesses large and small create ways to cut waste disposal costs and make it fun at the same time!

So the next time you are at the vending machine putting money in, think of how you could be receiving money to recycle instead. By starting your own business you will have the ability to do just that, make money by helping other companies recycle!

Help Your Community by Starting Your Own Business!

October 18th, 2011

I was recently having a conversation with my a friend about her current job.  She is currently in between jobs for the time being and she is now working as a store clerk at a nearby pharmacy.  When I asked her how she liked her job, she began to express her frustration towards the fact that they do not recycle.  While she was training for her job, her manager was giving her a tour in the backroom and in the corner of the room he pointed to the pile of large cardboard boxes and told her to not even bother asking about recycling them.

Think about it, EVERYTHING that comes through those doors comes in a large cardboard box. From drug shipments and shampoo to the walls of candy that line the far wall of the store. Not recycling all of that cardboard is something that the store should be concerned with, especially if it means that they are tossing away money throughout the course of the year.

Think about all of the stores spread across the country and the hundreds of thousands of cardboard boxes they waste every year. They could instead be saving a lot more than they already are.

Now here is where you come into the picture.  By starting your own entirely green home based business, you will have the opportunity to work with businesses large and small in order to create a sufficient and effective waste disposal plan that works for them.  In fact, most companies are constantly in search for new and creative ways to dispose of their daily waste; however they are either unaware of the opportunities or unable to do so because of a lack of time, skills, and resources. With your help not only will you be assisting businesses in your community, you will be helping the environment as well.

So the next time you are at your local grocery store or pharmacy, think to yourself, ‘are they recycling?’ because more than likely they aren’t. By creating your own environmentally friendly business, you will have the tools and skills to help the surrounding businesses in your community become greener, while making your bank account a bit greener in the process as well.

Screaming Your Way into Becoming Your Own Boss

October 12th, 2011

When I was looking at my planner, I could not believe that Halloween is fast approaching!  It seems like only yesterday we were ringing in 2011, and now it is quickly coming to an end.  However, although I am a little upset Halloween has arrived, simply because the year will be coming to a close in a faster speed than I can handle, this particular holiday is still one of my favorites.

I love the smell of the crisp fall night as I walk around countless neighborhoods with my older and her 3 boys.  I also love seeing the excitement and thrill on each of the children’s faces when they receive yet another piece of candy.

It is the one night of the year where people, young and old, get to pretend to be something they aren’t.  But once the clock strikes midnight, we all turn back into our normal selves and continue our daily schedules.  For kids, it simply means that they will be going back to school (hopped up on candy) to learn more about the fascinating world they live in.  But for the adults, like you and me, we must go back to our jobs and continue the routine we’ve grown accustomed to every day.

However, if you are reading this and are thinking to yourself, ‘I really could use a career change’ or have been contemplating it for years but haven’t had the time or opportunity to make a change, I have the perfect opportunity for you!  Start your own business!! Not only will you have the ability to be your own boss and work from the comfort of your own home, but your business will be focusing on the only thing you can always guarantee to be around…TRASH!!  Yes, that annoying, smelly thing we are always trying to get rid of will be the sole focus of your business. Working with trash will give you the opportunity to not only make an attractive residual income but it will allow you to work with the surrounding businesses in your community by creating successful and innovative ways to cut their waste disposal expenses.

So while you are out with your family and friends enjoying the crazy Halloween night, think about how you could actually become the owner of your own thriving home based business rather than imagining it once the “fantasy” of Halloween night returns to a normal day.

Recycling Can Become a Positive Aspect in EVERYONE’S Life!

October 11th, 2011

The other night I had a few of my closest friends over for a small party.  Throughout the course of the evening we all caught up with each other’s lives over food and drinks.  When the night was coming to an end, one of the couples stayed a little longer to help clean up.

As we were cleaning, I told my friend to put all of the aluminum cans, glass bottles, plastic containers, and other recyclable items into the recycling bin.  The look that my friend gave me was priceless!  Instead of seeing recycling as a positive aspect for the environment and to those in our surrounding community, they saw recycling as something that was forced.

As we continued to talk about this topic, she proceeded to explain to me that she felt this way towards recycling because of the Pay-As-You-Throw program in our community. However, with or without the PAYT program, people should see recycling as a positive routine in their daily lives.

However, it you are like my friend and also view recycling as something that is forced or as an unnecessary inconvenience, I may have a way to make recycling a more positive aspect in your life while potentially making you money at the same time!

By starting your own entirely green business you will gain the tools and knowledge to guide other businesses large and small in creating a successful waste disposal plan, all while earning a potentially fantastic residual income. Additionally, with environmental laws stating that many businesses need to have a proper waste disposal plan, companies are always looking for more innovative, effective, and inexpensive ways to do so, providing you with a residual income that’s totally recession proof!

So the next time you are having negative feelings towards your trash and recycling, think of how you could turn it into a positive part of your life by starting you own business and becoming your own boss!

Speed Your Way into Your Own Successful Business!

October 5th, 2011

I recently just experienced my first NASCAR race.  I have many friends and co-workers that go to the tracks year after year for the thrill of watching the cars zipping around the course, hoping that their favorite racer wins the race.  However, for me not only did the fast cars dangerously weaving in and out around each other grasp my attention but it was the amount of waste that was being created that  really caught my eye.

Big events like this have a tendency to use a various amount of recyclable items such as plastic cups, plastic utensils, aluminum cans, glass bottles, and the list goes on.  Typically all of these items get thrown into the closest garbage bin or left behind for the cleanup crew to do the work for them.

Now you are probably thinking to yourself, “What does this have to do with me?” You’ll especially wonder that if, like myself, you are not a particularly avid NASCAR fan. But after witnessing a race, my mind was opened up to whole new world of opportunities to make a change – particularly by taking what I learned and applying it to a green business.

By starting your own at home business not only will you get to be your own boss, but you will have the opportunity to work with companies like the ones that put on large events by helping them save money and make a more positive impact on the environment.  Businesses large and small are often looking for ways to cut waste disposal costs but either don’t have the time, money, or resources to create an effective recycling plan.

With your help, businesses will be looking at you for your skills and knowledge to assist them in establishing a successful and money saving waste disposal plan.

So the next time you are either at a concert, racetrack, or any big event, take a look around you and see if they have recycling options.  If not, you could be the change they need!
