Let's talk political trash

blog | 27 June, 2008 10:16

America the Beautiful? Not necessarily during election time.

Ever wonder what happens to all the political signs, flyers, posters, and other political brochures when the campaign trail is over?

What's left behind is more than political rhetoric; rather it's a massive amount of recyclable paper - political trash if you will; but what happens to it all when the mudslinging is over and ballots are counted?

In the past, in states like Florida, waste management organizations embarked on a project to ensure that post election season, garbage generated by all the campaigning would be properly disposed collected and recycled, and yet only 3 tons of paper was collected across the state.

Now consider in the past year alone, how much waste the US presidential campaign has generated, and the campaign trail is far from over.

Given that candidates have spent billions of dollars on campaigning, it only comes to reason that aside from internet-based marketing and television advertising that funds were also spent on producing more paper and signage - that puts a tremendous amount of campaign litter into our landfills; not to mention what's also produced during the political conventions.

In the interest of "shrinking the carbon footprint" the Coalition for Environmentally Responsible Conventions (CERC), which started with the 2004 Democratic and Republic conventions in Boston and New York, have been diligently working to promote environmental best practices during these events - with successful results; and will be doing the same during the 2008 Conventions in Denver and the Twin cities.

So with environmental organizations like CERC, governmental agencies, campaigners, and the public all on board with the intention of reducing waste, what's the excuse for adding more trash to our planet?

In partnering with businesses involved with the Conventions, EWS affiliates have an opportunity to also contribute to the greening of the political process... even if it's sweeping up after the elephant (and donkey) long after the political circus is over.

Styrene, and nylon, and plastic, oh my!

blog | 25 June, 2008 09:54

There are no witches, tin men, and scarecrows on this particular journey down the "green-brick" road, but there is opportunity to create an environment that is "no place like home".

Call it innovation, call it responsible, call it necessary - but regardless of how you view the issue of recycling, it is necessary. And while most people don't spend every waking moment worrying about the effects that waste has on our landfills that ultimately affect our environment, there is a way to educate the public, and businesses.

The wizard behind the curtain is Environmental Waste Solutions (EWS) who has worked with hundreds of EWS affiliates through the US to ensure that the road home is an easy one. For over 25 years, EWS affiliates have worked with businesses to assist them in finding ways of reducing waste and helping save the environment, at least one brick at a time.

Couple this with the proactive approach of grass-root organizations such as Californians Against Waste (CAW) who have been taking recycling matters into their own hands since 1977, companies and small businesses are responding, legally and ethically. However, our disposable consumer society is increasing waste in our landfills, and continuing to place a tremendous threat to our ecosystem and environment overall.

Let's look at the oh-so-familiar polystyrene containers that takeout food comes in which has become a staple in the busy American family household. Even when we see the common circle of recycling arrows - a symbol that we've become so accustomed of responding to - most people just toss the containers into the trash barrel.

Under the direction of CAW, a number of cities in California have voted to unanimously ban foamed polystyrene takeout food containers; one of the most durable materials that because of its tendency to break into tiny pieces, causes it to float or be blown into areas where wildlife have been affected due to their ingesting it, and often times it is fatal.

Some communities are also trying to ban the use of plastic bags by supermarkets and other retailers given that most plastic bags aren't recycled, placing nearly 600 bags per second into the trash in California alone.

Now the solution of environmental pollution appears to be easy, but like the Good Witch said to a confused Dorothy who was anxious to return to Kansas... "you had the power to go home all along".

Put another way: the answer is only obvious if you want to see it.

A recycled idea that keeps it simple

blog | 23 June, 2008 09:43

You know the old saying..."garbage in, garbage out"?

In today's environmentally conscious society, garbage in is new (recycled) products out, and an idea that in its simplest form is a lucrative business opportunity; one that's also helping keep America beautiful, as well as sparking other innovative business ideas.

How many times do you see a new business sprout up and read about its massive success, and thought to yourself... "why didn't I think of that?"

Environmental Waste Solutions (EWS) made it simple and thought of it for you.

Now while the ability to succeed requires business acumen of course the premise of the business model is easy. Everyone knows about recycling and all companies have waste to remove, which is costly and cumbersome. But there's an entire industry built behind the idea of not only removing waste from the premises, but then also selling that waste to end markets that reuse it to produce new products - products that will eventually be recycled. EWS affiliates across the country have built a solid reputation and a successful business on this recycled idea.

There are companies around the world that are essentially buyers and sellers of waste that are reused. From eco-friendly kitchen counters made from recycled glass and resin - to DVDs and CDs which are sent to plastic recycling plants - the simplest product is generating boundless opportunity for EWS affiliates to grow their recycling business.

Companies have relied on EWS affiliates to help them apply the most efficient, economical waste removal solutions that EWS has already formulated - so no one's recreating the wheel, they're only recycling it.

Sounds simple, doesn't it?

Follow the leader: a formula for success

blog | 20 June, 2008 09:57

If you take over 25 years of experience + extensive support and training + a $50 billion industry + and endless opportunity, it can only add up to one thing: SUCCESS!

Hundreds of EWS affiliates across the country have adopted this formula because they quickly recognized one very important factor when it comes to taking on an entrepreneurial endeavor - follow someone who has been a success in the area you want to pursue.

As waste management consultants who have the latest training from the leaders in the recycling industry, EWS affiliates are more apt to attract customers and build joint venture opportunities with those who have come to recognize that EWS is a company they can trust because of their unsurpassed expertise.

Although the concept of recycling is simple: you have waste, you throw it away, and someone hauls it away; cost-effective waste management requires knowledge as to how to implement an efficient plan, which helps to lower costs, reduce waste, offer additional waste options - all while making the entire process an easy solution for the customer.

Given today's economic climate, with more and more businesses feeling the financial pinch due to rising costs which are effecting their bottom line, EWS affiliates can bring some necessary relief to a variety of businesses, from hotel chains, supermarkets, area schools, and office parks - to name a few.

With the support of an experienced team behind them, EWS affiliates can quickly launch their new business venture and realize earnings sooner than most other start-up business, that is also recession proof.

By combining their own desire to succeed, with a formula for success, EWS affiliates have reaped the rewards in a business that knows no boundaries.

Hidden treasures: they're easier to find that you may think

blog | 18 June, 2008 09:50

Try this experiment next time you're sitting in a meeting where they've lost your attention, or at a restaurant while waiting for your meal: Take a look around you; and consider the number of recyclable items that are often overlooked. Now consider that there's a business opportunity associated with each item.

Did you ever think that the chair you may be sitting on is made from recycled plastic? Or that the plates are made from recycled aluminum cans. And what about your local sub shops - what do they do with its old cans, bottles, and plastic food containers? Could that be the new park benches?

Perhaps they recycle, likely they are required to so - restaurants, office buildings, even your neighborhood drycleaner. But are they doing it efficiently? What happens to the waste? And how can you benefit from these disposable items while helping them learn better ways of eliminating it?

Environmental Waste Solutions (EWS) is all about providing waste management consulting services through its EWS affiliates across the country, who have been reaching out to a variety of industries to help them learn the cost-benefits associated with their recycling programs. And the good news.more trash is being eliminated from our landfills and being recycled into other items, and the recycling service practically sells itself. It's a win-win for everyone.

Now that this recycling idea is in your subconscious, you won't be able to look at any item and not think of it as a money-making business opportunity or pass by a business and not see a potential customer.

The opportunities are endless for EWS affiliates. As long as there are people on the planet, there will be waste - and in that, opportunities to be seized and yes new products to be made.to be recycled, yet, again.

Green is the new black

blog | 16 June, 2008 09:43

Recycling isn't a new trend; but being Green is a buzzword that still garners lots of attention and makes people take notice - in places other than their weekly recycling bin - from fashion, to construction, to new business practices. And how it's being done and how lucrative recycling can be as a business is what's reshaping the industry.

With more and more people and organizations becoming better educated about the long term benefits of recycling, companies like Environmental-Waste Solutions (EWS) is forging ahead despite tough economic times. They have been training affiliates for 25 years to assist businesses in trimming down their waste disposal costs while also realizing extraordinary savings. More so, they are simultaneously facilitating turning "trash" into something new by helping them find businesses that can use their waste.

Let's face it, being "green" has essentially become a part of our everyday life, whether people are aware of it or not.

So why the big "green" push now?

Well, for one, we are finally taking a more proactive position when it comes to the detrimental effects that pollution and waste has in our environment, and not one wants to intentionally leave a dirty planet for their children and future generations. Thanks, Mr. Gore.

And secondly, people's social consciousness has been raised in a very trendy way.

Recycling is considered fashionable and being green isn't just for the hippie, eco-warriors any longer.

People have become more aware of what they put on their bodies, from wearing t-shirts that have recycling messages on them to purchasing clothing that's made from eco-friendly materials. And fortunately designers are paving the way like Bono and his wife Alison Hewson's with their T-shirt line EDUN (which is NUDE spelled backwards); and fashion icons like Diane von Furstenberg and Calvin Klein. They're all shining a social spotlight on a topic that continues to need attention and action.

And although not everyone may be on the eco-friendly green bandwagon just yet; today's environmentally-conscious citizen who does care about whom they purchase goods and services from are starting to have more options to choose from when it comes to doing business with a company, fashion or otherwise, that shares this value.

Calling all entrepreneurs: Take your share of a $50 billion pie

blog | 09 June, 2008 09:40

If someone told you they would share a slice of a $50 Billion pie with you, would you listen? You'd almost be crazy not to at least hear their pitch; in particular entrepreneurial-types who are always itching for a new lucrative business opportunity.

Does this sound like you? Of course it does. You're reading this because you know you are an entrepreneur at heart. The one that sees opportunity even when an economic downturn can shed a rather dreary light on your balance sheet; entrepreneurs forge ahead.

In today's economy with real estate prices continuing to drop, mortgage lenders finding the "recession" almost unrecoverable, and builders. well, they're waiting for the real estate folks to get it going again, so the mortgage lenders can lend, so they can build.

It is one vicious economic cycle.

Perhaps it's time to consider taking on a new venture that can nearly guarantee you that you will weather the economic storm, maybe while even maintaining visibility in front of your current customers - in particular in you work in a service-based industry such as real estate, mortgage lending, and construction.

Environmental-Waste Solutions (EWS) may have the solution for you.

With over 25 years in the environmental waste consulting business, EWS can help you create a lucrative cash flow that in an industry that doesn't need an introduction. It's simple: RECYLCLING programs - which have been in existence for decades. By becoming an EWS affiliate, you will be joining other entrepreneurs who seized the opportunity to take on a growing industry.

Companies across the nation need to recycle, but many aren't aware of their options, in particular smaller businesses that may represent a portion of your customer base. Put another way - you already may have built-in leads. More so, you can have a cash flow while demonstrating your environmentally conscious business practices, and maintaining customer relations.

Better yet, you may find that becoming an EWS affiliate is the new business venture you'd been looking for that will replace your current profession.

Just think - that while the economy is slowly recovering, you still have customers with whom you'd like to maintain contact. After all, you don't want them forgetting you when the economy picks up again. So why not offer them another service that helps them and the environment, while giving you your piece of a $50 billion pie.

A growing pile of waste...

blog | 01 June, 2008 19:59

On April 18, 2008 the Ocean Conservancy published its annual report on pollution and trash in marine environments. With new data from the previous year, the annual report provides the most comprehensive data about marine debris and waste. The shocking information that the report uncovers is the reality that there are hundreds of thousands of pounds of trash heaped on beaches all over the country - and that's just beaches. Imagine the amount of waste simply taking up space everywhere else in the country.

Given the sheer magnitude of the amount of waste simply on beaches, the potential cost to remove it is mind boggling. But how did the waste end up strewn across the sand of the nation's beaches in the first place? Carelessness and lack of information.

Careless and a lack of information are the chief reasons why waste accumulates anywhere. They are the reasons why waste becomes waste at all. Let's face it, the options available to businesses and individuals for waste management are not exactly obvious. Some businesses simply don't know what to do about their waste. In turn, their waste accumulates and turns into a constantly growing problem that becomes more and more expensive to deal with every day in business. Other businesses may simply be careless and unaware of the impact that proper and efficient waste management can have on their finances as well as the environment.

EWS affiliates are capable of eradicating waste as businesses know it. They transform waste into a simple factor of business, instead of a constant drain on finances. By educating their clients and opening the doors to more efficient and effective waste management, EWS affiliates ensure their clients don't waste their profit on their waste.
